DONOR-ADVISED FUNDS

Donor-advised funds are convenient, flexible tools, allowing you to support the causes and organizations you care about. Once you establish a fund using cash, stock, or other assets, you can recommend grants to the nonprofit organizations of your choice. Grants will be made in the name of the fund or they can be made anonymously.

Advantages of Donor Advised Funds

  • The donor avoids the time and expense of creating a private foundation. The donor-advised fund is not bound by IRS minimum distribution rules that apply to private family foundations.

  • The donor has the option to remain anonymous.

  • The donor recommends grants, but does not have to handle their contributions to individual charities.

  • The donor has the flexibility in the timing of grant distributions from the fund.

  • The Hastings Community Foundation handles all accounting, record-keeping, and investment management of the donor-advised fund.

  • DAFs can be created today with little or no minimum.

A Smarter Way to Give

What if you could support all your favorite charities with just one donation? That’s the power of a donor-advised fund with the Hastings Community Foundation.

When you give, you want your charitable donations to be as effective as possible. Donor-advised funds are the fastest-growing charitable giving vehicle in the United States because they are one of the easiest and most tax-advantageous ways to give to charity.

How a donor-advised fund works:

Make a tax-deductible donation

Donate cash, stocks or non-publicly traded assets such as real estate, private business interests and private company stock and get your tax receipt. You’ll also be eligible for an immediate tax deduction.

Grow your donation, tax-free

While you're deciding which charities to support, your donation can potentially grow based on your investment preferences, making available even more money for charities.

Support charities you love, now or over time

You can support virtually any IRS-qualified public charity with money in the donor-advised fund. The Hastings Community Foundation will conduct due diligence to ensure the funds granted out will be used for charitable purposes and the grantee is an IRS-qualified public charity.
